El Ateneo Grand Spledid

Last Friday, after running an errand downtown, I treated myself to an afternoon in one of the most beautiful bookstores in the world, El Ateneo Grand Splendid, since it's been a whie since I even set foot in there. I had a really yummy frappucino (though not as good as $bux's) and spent the afternoon sketching. Sigh…all those books and only a small section of them in English.

Friday Night Drawing Workshop!!!

I finally found a drawing workshop here in BA that didn't cost a crazy twenty something US dollars to go to. This one, in Villa Urquiza, cost about $25 AR (about $4 US) had live jazz, a bar, and two ethnic models which, if you've been in Buenos Aires for a while, you'd know is a really good and much needed thing. Only catch was, the flyer said it started at 21:00 which, in practice translated to about 23:00. So I was still drawing at about 2am! Then, of course, walking back home at around 3am, the streets of Palermo Hollywood seemed as crowded as they would have been in the daytime, minus the young kids. Awesome. Hope they have one every Friday!!!

Old sketch

Did this sketch ages ago. Wasn't too happy with it because it took me so long to do with the gathering of reference material, the preliminary sketches, and the painting process. Then again it was one of the first concept sketches I ever did. Anyway, after looking at it again yesterday, I did a few quick fixes and now I think hmm, not too bad.

Mice

Did this a while ago for a proposed book project that, alas, never saw light of day.

Park sketch

Trying something new for my Buenos Aires sketches, more cartoony, quicker to do, and a bit more personal. Might expand to short, illustrated stories.

A Church in Palermo

I walked by this place one weekday evening and was surprised to see as many people of all ages in there as I did. Not a regular churchgoer, though sometimes I wish I was. But Sunday is just another workday to me.

The original is for sale on my Etsy site.

Cafe Rivas in San Telmo

Another sketch experiment. I like this piece, though I can't help thinking, yeah, but it looked so much better in my head!! Part and parcel of being an artist...
