Happy New Years everyone!!!

I am back from vacation. Recovering from vacation actually. Which of course means vacation photos and (because my brain is kinda mushy today) not too much commentary...
New York, needless to say, was super crowded.
and super freezing cold. (Grand Street, our home base in New York.)

Street art in Little Italy...

66 Perry Street, Greenwich Village, a.k.a. Carrie Bradshaw's place...

Wall Street...

The Met...
I've visited this museum a number of times and still haven't seen everything inside it. So I was determined to have a full day there on this visit - and still didn't see everything. Too many of the works demand more than a passing glance. These works I found especially moving or beautiful.

Central Park...
A cupcake truck!!!! Every neighborhood should have one...
Wish mine did. I'd have my cupcake money ready by the door, and every time I heard the telltale music of a passing cupcake truck I'd run out of my apartment and...O, cupcake truck! Where art thou?

Shopping...

The most amazing department store windows I've ever seen...

Fancy birthday lunch at L'Ecole...

The Jazz and Sketch workshop at the Society of Illustrator's Museum...
where I mingled with kindred spirits and enjoyed a glass of wine...

Times Square...
and the blasted ball we endured hours of drizzling cold for.

It was worth it.

  9. happy new year! and i bet you had an absolute blast in ny on vacation! the met. yeesh, it is HUGE! YUGE! i think it would require a couple of days to see it all. or maybe weeks or months! i have only been once, and i walked about 2 miles to get there. then i couldn't believe how much i had to walk in the museum. and then i had to walk back home because i was chicken shit to try and figure out the subway and too poor (or cheap!) to take a cab. oh my legs! i was bone tired that day, for sure!

  10. Wonderful wonderful photos! A feast for the eyes. I can't begin to pick my favorite. Although I did find it interesting that Wall Street is so covered with red ink that the columns are crimson.

  11. Naturally, the photo that captivated me most was of the cupcake truck.

    That is brilliant!

  12. Thanks La Belette Rouge, me too! 2010 baby, all the way!!! Going to NY was a good way to start the year because it kept my mind focused off of me, myself and I. Was listening to radio show that featured elderly artists who attributed their ongoing vibrance and creativity to not dwelling on past. Think will adopt this idea as my life philosophy, esp. considering family drama of last few days. Yay forgetfulness!! xoxo

Hi Maggie, I want to go back to!!! Though I wouldn't mind going to Paris first. So many places to visit, things to experience...

Hi drollgirl, yeah, a few days at least because I started to get hungry and tired after just a few hours. And food there is ridiculously expensive. Should have snuck in a hot dog. Next great museum to exhaust me, God willing, will be the Louvre.

Hi Butler and Bagman, hee, hee, didn't think of that (too distracted by the twinkly lights on the Christmas tree). Ooo pretty!!!

Hi De Campo, yes, I'm afraid that cupcake truck, more than anything else over there, the shopping, the Met, will lure me back to New York one day.

  15. Hi Shantser, Crystal Jigsaw, I'm glad I was able to share some of my experiences with you. And how is it that no one thought of a cupcake van until now? I checked online and found one not to far from me, thank goodness. Now I just have to check the schedules.

  18. Oh my goodness... take me back now... I need to go back to NYC!! Beautiful pictures. And you just know how much I long to sit on Carrie Bradshaw's stoop... now that I have the address I might just risk trying it on our next visit. Which will be about 5 years time and by then I'll probably be embarrassing my daughter big time! TG39 x

  19. Hi TG39, me too! I would love to live there for a while, just for the adventure of it. And Carrie's stoop is in a really cute part of town, if your daughter objects to going tell her there's some really great boutiques and cafes (where I had the best hot chocolate!) there.

  21. Me Too. I got here trying to find Carrie's apartment. I just have to go to New York. I has been a dream of mine since I was very young. Haven't stopped thinking about it. When is the best time to visit. I have always dreamed of being there close to Christmas time or even Thanksgivings?

    1. Hey, hope you were able to visit NYC! My favorite time to visit is Spring or Autumn when the weather isn't too extreme. But NYC in wintertime, if you don't mind the cold, is really beautiful with all the holiday displays and the snow.
